Best Mountain LocationsTo Elope In Colorado

Once you decide you want to elope in Colorado, the big question you’ll have is: “What are the best places to elope in Colorado?” And the truth is, the best spot really comes down to your priorities, comfort level, and the kind of experience you want to have.

Over the past 6 years, we’ve helped couples plan their elopements on cliff edges, tucked into aspen groves, and celebrating with tacos and craft beer on mountain tops. Trust us, everywhere in Colorado is stunning. That’s why the best way to find your perfect elopement spot is to start by choosing a general region first, then we’ll help you narrow it down to the perfect location from there.

In this guide we’ll walk you through the best mountain areas to elope in Colorado, based on the experience they offer, the logistics you’ll need to consider, and the overall vibe they have.

Let’s find what region fits you best.

We’ve grouped these locations into two categories: remote/adventurous and scenic/easy-access spots. Not all mountain towns are the same, and not every place will match your vibe. These mountain towns aren’t the only ones in Colorado, but they are the best “hubs” to get the most out of your experience. Take a look below to find the places that feel like the right fit for you.

These locations are ideal for couples who crave adventure and don’t mind going off the beaten path. Think locations that might require hiking, off-roading, or traveling farther from tourist areas. Expect small-town charm, remote scenery, and fewer crowds but don’t count on super easy access to restaurants, tours, shops, or any big city-style amenities.

Located in the San Juan Mountains, Ouray is called the “Switzerland Of America”, and it is one of the most unreal places you’ll get to experience. It’s a tiny, remote town with old school western vibes, full of rugged mountains, waterfalls and valleys that really make you feel like you’re not in Colorado anymore. Eloping in Ouray is perfect for couples who want to experience a cozy, romantic yet adventurous elopement with unreal scenery. It’s not for you if you are looking for high end amenities as it has a more rustic and off-grid feel. Even though it’s considered a more “remote” location, most of the spots you can elope at are very accessible via off-roading or regular driving!

Telluride, Colorado

If we can make a list of the most luxe mountain towns to elope in Colorado, Telluride would make the list. Also located in the San Juans, this mountain town is perfect for couples who want the best of both worlds: epic rugged scenery and access to great shopping, cute aesthetic vibes and fun events like festivals. It’s not for you if you’re looking for more tiny town vibes or if you want your stay to feel more “off the grid”. Even though it is a more fancy mountain town, there is tons of rugged adventure to be had and some of our favorite elopement locations exist here.

If you’re looking for true small town charm in a place that feels like you’re being transported back in time, Silverton might be great for you. It’s a tiny old mining town with so much character with its wild west meet’s Victorian vibe. This location is for very adventurous couples looking for truly remote spots that feel untouched or don’t mind working a little bit to get to them. It’s one of the least busy of the other towns in the San Juan Mountains.

Crested Butte, Colorado

Crested Butte is known as the wildflower capital of the state and we think that’s pretty self explanatory. It’s a quirky, artsy and laidback mountain town in Colorado that is surrounded by mountains and meadows. Not only are the wildflowers here insane in July, fall foliage has a notable mention as well. It has a ton of unique shops, dining and walkable areas as well as very accessible scenery for elopements. Eloping in Crested Butte is awesome for couples who are looking for something more unique with some accessibility and the option to still feel like you’re off the beaten path.

Leadville, Colorado

You probably won’t see Leadville pop up on most of your searches of best places to elope because it’s not as popular (yet) but it should be! It’s one of our favorite places to explore and the town gives off the cutest historic and Victorian vibes perfect for cute photos. It’s great for couples not looking to be too far from the Denver airport but far enough to feel like they are in a less touristy area with access to epic mountain scenery.

Buenavista, Colorado

If you’re looking for an underrated spot that isn’t far from the Denver airport, too touristy, or too boujee, Buenavista is your place. It has the highest concentration of 14ers making the mountains that surround it feel extra massive. Eloping in Buenavista is awesome for you if you are looking for a location that is laid back, quirky and has more access to amenities like grocery stores and coffee shops without sacrificing seclusion and that remote feel.

Aspen would also make the list of the most luxe mountain towns in Colorado. Eloping in Aspen is for couples who are looking for a luxurious experience while being surrounded by epic views. It has upscale shops, dining and fun events. It’s home to one of the most iconic views: Maroon Bells and has a vibrant cultural scene. It’s not for you if you’re looking for a more lowkey, more affordable option.

These locations are perfect for couples who want stunning views without going completely off-grid. They’re easily accessible, closer to Denver International Airport, and offer plenty of nearby amenities like restaurants, lodging, and activities. Great for those who want a beautiful experience with minimal logistics and more convenience.

One of our favorite, most accessible mountain towns in Colorado has to be Breckenridge. It’s one of the towns that offers the best year round locations along with accessible amenities and abundance in lodging/food options. Eloping in Breckenridge is great for you if you want to have lots of options of things to do ranging from dining, outdoor activities and access to other mountain towns. It’s one of the more touristy towns, but you can still find seclusion in the area for your elopement if you work with the right team (in other words, with us).

Colorado Springs is perfect for couples who want variety for their experience. There’s red rock formations, open plains, waterfalls, and mountain views, all without needing to drive far. Garden of the Gods is a popular spot for elopements or just to visit. While it’s more of a city vs. a mountain town, the mountains are so close by that we had to add it to this list. It’s a great option for couples who want nature and amenities.

Idaho Springs, Colorado

Idaho Springs is a quirky little mountain perfect for couples who want a chill, low-key vibe with easy access to Denver and beautiful spots like St. Mary’s Glacier. It’s great for short hikes with big views, off-roading, soaking in hot springs, or staying in a rustic cabin nearby. Ideal for couples who want a mix of adventure and relaxation. We would describe most elopement spots here to have cliff-like views mixed with canyons.

Winter Park is a ski town that’s great for couples who love winter sports or want those snow-covered mountain backdrops. In the warmer months, it’s filled with wildflowers, bike trails, and epic alpine views. It’s a great elopement area for outdoorsy couples who want a true mountain-town experience. It doesn’t have the major tourist crowds of bigger resort areas.

Tips to consider when choosing the perfect mountain region to elope

Scenery

What type of scenery are you drawn most to? Woodsy areas, big mountain views, lakes? This can help you narrow down locations as every region has something unique to offer.

Privacy

Most mountain towns will have lesser known locations that most locals will know about even if it’s a touristy area. If privacy is super important though, picking locations that are not touristy or more remote is highly recommended.

Seasons

What season do you dream of eloping in? Colorado’s seasons have a huge impact on what areas you may choose from. From road closures to how a location actually looks, some spots are only accessible during certain times of the year. Some areas become sleepy towns in the winter or fall.  If we had to pick, the best time to elope in Colorado is during the summertime and the fall (June-October). It’s when all locations are accessible and the environment looks the most colorful.

Accessibility and logistics

How far are you willing to travel? Not all locations are near the Denver international airport and some require you to drive 4+ hours to get to! If you want to go hiking or off-roading, what are your limits for that? This will help you when narrowing down potential locations.

Experience & Vibe

What location is going to feel most like you? Are you hardcore adventurous or are you more laid back and outdoorsy? The location you choose should ultimately be an extension of who you are as a couple.
