30 Elopement Activities For Your Colorado Elopement
The best way to make your elopement special is by including things that you love to do together on your elopement day. Adding activities to the day not only enhances your experience and makes it unique, it also adds so much storytelling to your photos and video! Heres a list of activities that we love to suggest in Colorado by season:
Elopement activities for the summer
Summer is our FAVORITE month for an elopement in Colorado for many reasons but the main one is the endless possibilities for activities and locations! The weather is perfect, the state looks green and you don’t have to worry about wearing a jacket and all the extra things!
Hiking
If you’re like us and you’re a little crazy then this might be the best activity for your elopement. Walk through nature and get to enjoy all the views as you challenge yourself to get to the final destination (where you’ll read your vows) . We normally recommend staying around the 3-4 mile range round trip to be sure that it’s enjoyable.

Wild flower peeping
This doesn’t just mean looking at the flowers, If it’s your dream to get married surrounded by wild flowers Colorado has you covered. Wild flowers drive people crazy here in the summer, especially in mid July in Crested Butte.
Offroading
Off roading is fun and a whole different experience as you climb rocks and drive across water to get to the top of the mountain. So if you want it to look like you hiked miles and worked really hard for your view but want to skip the actual hard work we 1000 percent recommend Offroading.

Rock climb
Do you remember when you were a kid and it was so much fun getting on top of a large rock? Guess what, it’s still just as fun! Some of the best views in the state require some sort of climbing of rocks. It doesn’t have to be technical but if you want to bring your climbing shoes go for it.
Paddleboarding
This is one of our personal favorites because why wouldn’t you want a chance to dunk your feet into an alpine lake on a warm summer day? Plus this makes for some pretty amazing photos in the middle of the lake.
Canoeing
Like the previous paddle boarding this makes for some great photos in the lake but it also gives you some privacy and alone time. Bring letters from friends and family to read out on the lake or even bring a picnic basket to enjoy out in the water.

Camp/backpack:
This is our favorite summer activity so we have all the best camp spots you can drive or hike to. Set up your tent or hop into your camper. You’ll have privacy, views, and nothing beats a good campfire conversation.
Stargazing
If you’ve never seen stars at high elevation with low light pollution, prepare to be amazed. Cozy up and get epic milky way shots to end your elopement.
Picnicking
You do have to eat on your elopement day and snacking on some adult lunchables (Charcutterie) never disappoints. This can look like an actual picnic blanket and food or you can bring any type of snack that you want.

Cook meal together
Maybe this is something you enjoy doing together and do it at home all the time and would love to have it documented. Think of starting your day slowly, making french toast and coffee watching the sunrise out on the balcony or maybe grilling something for dinner as you watch the sun set and cozy up by a fire.
Helicopter ride
This is for all my people that want to go above and beyond the mountains. (you over achiever) but in all reality tis puts a different perspective on mountain views and landing on a secluded peak to enjoy all on your own is something special.
Read letters from family and friends
The best way to include your family and friends that won’t be present on your elopement day. They are also great to hang on to and look back on when you talk to people about your amazing day.

Pop Champagne
You have all seen the fun photos of popping some bubbly and yes it is as fun as it looks. You don’t have to be a drinker to do this as they have alternatives like carbonated water in cute bottles to have the same effect.
Play Boardgames
If you enjoy playing games together and want an activity that feels more like you set up the table and bring out the snacks plus imagine the bragging rights you’ll have if youre the one that wins the game on your elopement day! (If it’s Citan or some sort of Dungeons and Dragons game we will probably ask for a spot at the table to join)
Coffee date
Colorado has some of the cutest mountain town cafes and If you’re a coffee snob like us this is an automatic addition to your elopement day, just think of the photos of you enjoying your wild flower latte outside of a cafe with the mountains in the background.Check out The Coffee Lab in Crested Butte!

Painting
You can relax by a lake on a blanket and paint your view together for a nice date-like experience. Have a drink and some snacks on the side of course and when you’re done keep your painting and put it up when you get home.
Brewery hopping
This isn’t for everyone but most mountain towns have breweries and if you like to taste different local beers for fun then this one we always recommend.
Campfire and Smores
Pull your camp chairs up to the fire and cozy up together and enjoy one of the iconic camp snacks! Share stories and enjoy your time under the stars.
Horseback riding
Not something you can do on all trails but if you can go for it. Save your legs from the hike and enjoy your views from horseback. We do recommend doing this then getting ready though because some horses can get spooked by your dress.

Elopement activities for the fall
Fall basically offers the same activities as summer, but with much cooler temperatures! With the exception of the fall foliage, fall is equally perfect for summer activities:
Leaf peeping
Like wild flowers in the summer the color change in the fall is something special in Colorado. Just know that the window for the best fall colors is typically the last two weeks of September and about the first week and a half of October. This is all depending on how aggressive the wind is but its safe to say if you pick a date in this window you will be safe!

Elopement activities for the spring & winter
We always count winter and spring as one season because in the mountains there isn’t a huge difference between them aside from slightly warmer temperatures in the spring. In fact, you’ll still find snow at most high elevations though May!
Sledding
We know it sounds crazy, but your wedding- your rules. Sledding can be a fun option for adrenaline seeking couples who don’t ski or snowboard, but want to add a little adventure on their elopement day. You can also go tubing if walking up the mountain is not your vibe. Check out Kayla & Alex, sledding on their elopement day.

Bonfire
There’s nothing like having a cozy bonfire at dusk to warm up after a long day of adventuring in the mountains. Drink some hot cocoa or your favorite warm drink!
Skiing/Snowboarding
If you’re a couple that loves to ski/snowboard together, it’s a fun thing to incorporate on your elopement day. The photos will look bad ass and you’ll have tons of fun! Bonus: You can get a shot ski to celebrate at the bottom of the mountain!
Ice skating
Ice skating can be a bit more advanced, but imagine the candid photos you’d get gliding on an alpine lake?
Snowmobiling
The best part about winter is that you really don’t have to work hard to get to some epic places. Snowmobiling can take you to some locations in the winter that will be secluded and gorgeous! Places like Maroon Bells (which are usually SO busy in the summer) are great areas you would never see without people!
Snowshoeing
If you’re looking for total seclusion on your elopement day, we recommend snowshoeing a bit! A lot of locations in the winter have too much snow for regular hiking, making it the perfect time to find less busy areas by going a little bit farther than everyone else. You’ll also be able to stay warm throughout the day with the movement! Check out Alejandra & Nick’s snowshoeing elopement.

Horse Sled Riding
Imagine drinking some hot cocoa with your love while sitting on a cute sled riding between the snow filled pines? Doesn’t that sound so relaxing and fun? Plus you’ll get epic photos! Hire a private ride with a company like Golden Horseshoe Sleigh Rides in Breckenridge!
Gondola Ride:
You can ride the gondola up the mountain (for free in Breckenridge) and make a coffee/ pastry stop at the top lodge!
Hotsprings or Hot tub:
Winter is hands down the best time to get into warm water. You’ll probably get lucky and it starts snowing while you’re in there relaxing after a long day of exploring.
Cozy up in a cabin
Get matching pj sets and take homey photos after your elopement if you don’t want to be out in the cold all day!
The best way to make your elopement feel more like you, is by creating a day that includes activities that you love!
